Instructions
  1. Press Sauté; melt butter in Instant Pot. Add oats; cook about 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
  2. Add water, salt and cinnamon; cook and stir 1 minute.
  3. Secure lid and move pressure release valve to Sealing position. Select Manual; cook at high pressure 13 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, prepare Berry Compote, if desired.
  5. When cooking is complete, press Cancel to turn off heat. Use natural release for 10 minutes, then release remaining pressure.
  6. Stir oats until smooth. Add half-and-half and brown sugar; stir until well blended.
  7. If a thicker porridge is desired, press Sauté and cook 2 to 3 minutes or until desired thickness, stirring constantly. (Porridge will also thicken upon standing.) Serve with Berry Compote.
To Make the Compote
  1. Combine 1 strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon water in medium saucepan; bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  2. Cook 8 to 9 minutes or until berries are tender but still hold their shape, stirring occasionally.

This was awesome. I don’t like oatmeal but i loved this! I couldn’t find steel-cut oats but i was able to make it work with flaked oats and reducing cooktime to 10 minutes. I also added apples and craisins and pressure cooked them with the oats. Will definitely make again

This is the best steel cut oats recipe! Toasting the oats in the butter first makes all the difference in flavor. I don’t make the compote and just use toppings I have on hand.

This was great!! I’m only giving it 4 stars because I’m not sure how this quantity would be able to feed 4-6 adults, as stated. This was the perfect amoumt for my husband, myself, and my 1 year old. I loved the added cinnamon in the cooking process. I was worried about there being too much liquid so I reduced the water by 1/4 cup. I did not make the compote and used crushed pecans, babanas, and maple syrup to top it. I ommited the brown sugar since I used maple syrup. Delicious.

Love this recipe. I did not originally like oatmeal but I can’t get enough of this. My husband and I are often busy and not usually morning people so I usually make a double batch and store it in individual serving sizes in the fridge. Then my husband and I can grab and go in a rush if we need it. So good. I usually do compote because I love it but the oatmeal definitely stands alone fine or with whatever toppings ypu have on hand.

I loved this recipe. Easy to make and yields a lot of oatmeal. I portioned it into 6 airtight containers and had enough for the week. It is so delicious with the fruit compote, almost like a dessert. It is very hearty – Kept me full for hours, so that was a bonus to the diet!

Absolutely delicious, but definitely not more than 3 or 4 servings. I think I will double the recipe next time.

This recipe has a mistake in the ingredients list as it says half and half but doesnt tell you what its half and half of? Any ideas?

    Tomg1 says:

For Racheltheboss: buy half-and-half in the dairy section, near the milk. It’s a standard mix of milk and cream. (I frequently substitute canned evaporated milk in recipes that call for half:and-half or vream.)

I didn’t have any fruit on hand, so I substituted 2 cups of Apple Cider for 2 out of the 3 cups of water. Turned out great!

Instead of berries, i added raisins once oatmeal was done, best raisins ans apice oatmeal I’ve ever had!

I usually make overnight oats with yoghurt, which is also very nice, but this is really tasty! I’ll definitely make this again. I reckon that even people who say they hate porridge would have to admit this is nice.

I have made this now many times. I made it with half milk and half water for the liquid plus I added some vanilla extract or almond extract to it adds even more flavor. I put in dryed cherries and cranberries in it as well very delishes

Loved the nutty flavor from sauteing the oats! I sucessfully doubled the recipe (all ingredients) while cooking in the same time (13 minutes)! Used condensed milk instead of the milk and brown sugar and added vanilla extract, delish!

I replaced the strawberries with raspberries, because of my allergy to strawberries. Turned out amazing. Very good. 10/10 would make again.
