China Doll was one of the first packagers of rice and dried beans in consumer sizes. This was over 80 years ago and at that time rice and beans were handled from bulk containers. The measuring and sacking of rice using hand scales was usually done by the “free labor” of relatives of the grocery store owner and the cost of packaging was never considered.
The founder of China Doll was farsighted enough to recognize that mass production in individual retail packages would be very advantageous, however, it was very difficult to convince the store keeper that he should pay someone to package for him when he had the free services of his family.
After packaged rice was successfully marketed, over 20 different varieties of dried beans were added to the company portfolio to complement the existing six varieties of rice.
With improvements in packaging, storage and transportation came the opportunity to increase the scope of operations and China Doll Products were soon available throughout the Southeast United States.
In 2008, China Doll Rice and Beans Inc. purchased the Dixie Lily brand and added some of the South’s favorite products to its already impressive portfolio.
In 2011 W.M Meador Inc. became part of the China Doll Family. W.M. Meador Inc. is a supplier to the food services and institutional market throughout the Southeast. The addition of W.M. Meador adds the Big Bill Brand to the China Doll mix.
We are proud that all of our products are grown, sown and milled right here in the United States and have been since our founding.
