I got the BURN message right away. I did put a little more cheese in than the recipe called for. Ultimately I dumped everything into a casserole dish and finished it in the oven. Next time I’ll just make a dish like this in the oven or maybe crock pot.
Got up to pressure then burn notice twice. I think it needs more liquid on the bottom. Put in oven to finish
Reminds me of shepherd’s pie. Husband loved it
Doesn’t work in the instant pot. The cheese keeps burning so the pressure wont lock because it keeps byrning
This recipe is tricky to make in the inner pot and must be followed precisely. I would add broth and then first layer as recommend. You can also make this in an oven safe dish that fits in the inner pot.
Very easy to make and flavorful
We made this as our first instant pot meal. Turned out amazing. We made sure we used extra broth just so it would make it not burn. Great recipe.
Was very yummy. I didnt get the right cheese consistency as seen in the picture. It still turned out very yummy though.
This was my first meal in the Instant Pot. I think more meat needs to be added. There’s really too much potato. Otherwise, it was good and easy.
Very easy, quick and tasty.
Didn’t look like the picture as I used a pale coloured Cheddar instead of the more yellow version.
Yummy but the cheese seemed to disappear
Definitely a family approved meal!
Terrible. Flavor profile is bland and it burns. Would never make again
Having an initial layer of potatoes causes the burn error to come up on my Duo 6 quart before pressure can be achieved. Also agree that the cheese disappears and doesn’t look like the picture. Removed from instant pot, added cream of cheddar soup and more cheese and baked in oven.
Tasty dish though do nees to let cool before serving. Way too hot.
My first instantpot failure. Burn messages one after the other. Dumped into a casserole dish and into the oven. Just so so.
My first InstantPot failure as well. I kept getting the burn notice which I haven’t gotten in 1 1/2 years! I wound up putting it in the oven after the third burn notice. Maybe if I make this again I’ll put the potatoes on the rack.
Im makeing this tonight, but im going to use chicken in place of ground beef. I thought i hadground beef oops i out and notgoing to store!
I will add more meat and more cheese!
I will let you all know how it goes! I will be adding garlic!
Love it, the only problem is that the cheese goes all the way to the bottom of the pot and sticks in it … ill try again putting the cheese in each plate
It burned even after adding more beef stock. Ended up being a casserole; put it in the oven for 20-25 mins at 450 degrees and it turned out well. So 2 stars for the instant pot, 4.5 for the oven.
Burn notice three times! Even after adding more than enough stock!! Still trying to clean the pot. Had to finish in the oven as well.
Turned out really good my husband and I really liked this dish,. I did after reading the reviews use the rack and about a cup more broth over the top .
Burnt to the bottom of pot.
I made my version of this dish (allergy to peppers forces me to alter every recipe) and it was absolutely delicious! Hubby even ate the leftovers cold on a bun, for his lunch.
I didn’t wash out my IP after cooking the beef and garlic. Instead of using broth, I used water and gravy mix. I topped the last layer with a can of cheddar cheese soup, then cooked as directed. I immediately removed the inner liner to a cutting board and placed a lid on top to loosen the cheese from the bottom. Delicious!
I made this as directed and didnt have any burn issues. The whole family loved it.
Followed recipe to a tee, burn notice, twice. Transfered to casserole dish to oven to finish.
Awesome dish but burn food issue. I followed directions but still burned. May need to add a steamer tray
Just made it! Super easy and quick. Family loved it. Even my super picky son came back for seconds and wants to know when i’ll make it again. It did not burn. Instapot briefly said ‘food burning’ just as it reached pressure cooking temp but it flashed on and off and all was good
BURN!!!! Ugh i hate that! Burn twice and transferred to oven.
Not sure what i did wrong… it was very soupy. The potatoes were done. My daughter & grandaughter liked it.
Too much like hamburger helper to me(yuk). Stuck to bottom of pan
My first meal cook in the instant pot. It was easy an tasted great.
Wished I would have read the reviews prior to making. Pot went to burn twice and added 1 cup of beef broth. Removed from the pot and put it in the oven for 20 minutes at 450. Very tasty just disappointed.
Its soup! I followed the instructions exactly, and it is soup and the bottom burned. There is so much “juice” in pot that i had to strain the food. Terrible recipe, beware .
We cooked this receipe and it was really good. It is a casserole style dish and is a little soup like if you add to much broth. I did have a burn issue but upon inspection the culprit was the cheese, it sunk to the bottom and melted causing the burn. I recommend not adding the cheese at all to the pot wait until it is done and add to plates individually. Other than that it was very good, leftovers were good to.
Followed instructions exact, burned. Took out, scrubbed, returned to pot with another entirecan of broth….burned again. Do not recommend
Very good reminds me of a shepards pie that i make from cleaneating.com its been put in my rotation
Second use of Instant Pot. Urn error right as it got to pressure. Dumped it in a bowl, scrubbed burned cheese out, resprayed with non stick spray, restarted it…burn error. So irritated. I have spent two hours on this 15 min dish.
Made this for supper. It turned out realy good. It didn’t burn but i added the cheese at the end.
Great taste but the burn notification came on and potatoes and cheese burned on the bottom. Followed directions to the tee.
I got the burn notice. I had to finally take it out and bake in the oven. Taste was good but made a horrible mess in the bottom of the pot. I did follow the instructions exactly.
WORST recipe ever! Followed the directions and i got the burn warning. Added more liquid, burn warning, etc, etc. After adding so much liquid that it turned to soup and still getting the burn message again, I gave up. My 15 minute recipe took over an hour to still be an epic fail. Not the best “first experience” with instant pot.
This recipe really need to be adjusted. The time need to be increased. In my 6qt it took over 60 minutes for the potatoes to get done. There needs to be more broth. There was too lillte broth that the pot barely made any steam pressure. I set it as the instruction 15 minutes. Then another 15, then 20 then another 20 minutes. Finally it was edible. The meat need to be doubled and the seasons need to be reduced a little. It burnt all of the bottom layer of potatoes. This recipe needs some work.
Bad recipe for the pot. After seeing reviews, I left some of the beef juices in and sprayed the heck out of the liner. Also only put one layer of cheese on the top. Still got the burn error.
smells great, but freaken 1st layer of potatoes burnt to bottom and pot kept saying food burn, so just put it in oven. Will give it one more chance and if it screws up its going back
Second time I’ve made a recipe from this app and gotten the burn notice. Followed all the directions both times. When this was finally done, the cheese had virtually disappeared, and we were left with slightly cheesy beef and potatoes. Not appetizing either visually or taste-wise. Should have had onions and optionally mushrooms for the extra flavor. Not sure what could be done about the cheese though. Definitely buy extra and put some on top.
Burn notice – had to finish in the oven
Made this exactly as instructions said. Wish I had read the reviews first. Got the food burn notice before it even got up to pressure. It stuck horribly and I ended up putting it in a casserole and in the oven.
Really disappointed. I thought I’d make a quick dinner. Instead it will take me forever to get the Instapot clean. This is only my second time using my new Instapot. If the inner pot doesn’t come clean I will be contacting them.
Does anyone at Instapot test the recipies ????
Horrible!! Followed instructions exactly and got burn notice too- potatoes were raw. Tried to restart and kept getting burn notice. Threw it in the oven. Maybe It’ll turn out into something edible, who knows.
Does NO ONE test these recipes??
I followed the recipe exactly and got the burn notice pretty much as soon as it reached full pressure. Turned it off right away; it was salvageable. Served it with extra cheese on the side, as all the cheese had melted away. Decent recipe, just maybe not for the InstantPot.
Like the other reviewers. Very frustrated by burn warning multiple times. Will try again but make it as a cottage pie instead. Little bit too much seasoning for my taste, probably doesn’t help i didn’t have any paprika so i used mild chilli powder instead . Good luck
Loved this easy quick recipe. Just don’t forget to spray the pot before starting to layer or it will continuously tell you it’s burning. I added a bag of frozen peas and carrots the second time I made it and it was delicious.
Sprayed the pot with cooking spray before I made this recipe and it worked perfectly. Made it with venison, it was a little soupy but potatoes were soft and tasty!
This was a hit in our home. I added 1 onion and fresh garlic while the browning my meat. Also cut up in chunks 1/3 of a block of cream cheese. Layered the same as the sprinkled cheese. Very hearty!
Was very hearty. Added onions and fresh garlic. Also a few chunks of cream cheese throughout.
I read the reviews and did all recommendations, including hosing the pot down with pam spray. Still got the burn notice. I was really hoping I would be one of the lucky ones. When i decided to transfer to oven to save frustration it was very soupy. But it thickened up in the oven and tasted pretty good. I would do this again but not in the instant pot.
I didnt get the burn notice like so many others mentioned but it did come out a bit too soupy for my liking. Overall pretty good from my experience.
Good flavor – would cut down on rosemary – if not eliminate it entirely. I used a mandolin to slice potatoes thinner than 1 inch while I did get burn notice potatoes only took another 5 minutes b4 warning displayed again – I have Duo Evo Plus 8 qt and did not change the recipe by much -may try on low next time v high. While it seemed the little soupy at first the potatoes quickly soaked up extra juices.
A crap recipe. Followed to the letter, it burned twice, and ended up just putting it in a casserole dish in the oven.
Hi i made this tonight and after reading the reviews i put a cup of broth with onions, bell peppers, garlic and i cooked it for 20 mins and the last five mins i added the cheese. It was a hit, it was not a soup and it did not burn.
I should of read the reviews before trying to make this. They are all correct, burns, doesn’t come to pressure, had to finsh in the oven.
It had a good flavor, but I kept getting a burn notice. Next time i will add liquid.
Yes, my first failure with the Instantpot. It tasted fine but I kept getting burn notices. I think I will try it again using the trivet and then the potatoes. It burned the bottom of the pot and I just took the top off and put it on sautee until it was done.
Excellent! Going to add sour cream next time i make it!
Same as everyone else, burn. Do not make.
This recipe came out great! Lots of flavor. Added sour cream. While I did get the burn error at first, it did go away after pre-heating was done. I sprayed the bottom alot and it helped. I will most definitely make this again.
Have made this recipe a few times already. Never got a burn notice, never turned into soup. Great recipe and even greater meal
Doused the bottom with bake easy no stick spray in a non stick liner. I cut the potatoes a little thicker so they would not burn. No burn notice and it came out great!
It just burns and needs to be transferred to the oven like everyone else said. Not worth the attempt.
My family and the family i work for loves this recipe. I saw some reviews saying it burns. Ive never had that issue. You have to remove the meat. Pour in some broth then proceed as the directions say.
