Basic Potato Fries

There’s something so utterly and deeply satisfying about a crispy, golden french fry, and these super easy, hand-cut fries are no different. Don't skip the soaking step. This starch-removal phase helps the fries crisp up for an extra crunchy bite.

- 2 lb russet potatoes
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- Black pepper as needed
- Water as needed

- Fill a large mixing bowl with cool water two-third’s full.
- Rinse potatoes and pat dry.
- Slice potatoes into
¼-inch to⅜-inch sticks and add to water, leaving to soak for at least an hour. - After an hour, drain the water and rinse two more times with running water to remove excess starch from the fries, then pat dry with a paper towel.
- Pre-heat Air Fryer to 375°F.
- In a large mixing bowl (you can use the same as before), toss fries with oil, salt, and pepper.
- Place in an even layer in the fry basket (you may have to fry in batches depending on your air fryer) and set timer for 13 Minutes.
- After 13 minutes , toss fries and bump up the temp to 400°F, and cook for another 8 Minutes.
- Taste (careful, they’re hot) and toss with more salt if needed.
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
